High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
In our classroom
At Hunters Hill High School, HPGE lives in everyday practice. We are committed to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted students, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive at our school.
- Our classrooms promote challenge, collaboration, and deep thinking through differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity, and higher-order reasoning.
- Using the ALARM framework and formative assessment, teachers explicitly teach critical and creative thinking, ensuring learning is visible and responsive. Students engage in authentic, cross-curricular projects that develop the 4Cs—communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
- Flexible grouping, strengths-based feedback, and goal setting build confidence, risk-taking, and perseverance. In every lesson, students are supported and challenged to extend their thinking, refine their skills, and realise their potential.
Across our school
At Hunters Hill High School, every student is encouraged to explore their potential through diverse opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
- Students extend their learning through debating, Model UN, Women in STEM, Rocket Competitions, and enrichment programs such as Beyond the Bell, the Numeracy Centre, and Mac-Lit. Creativity flourishes through musicals, performance nights, HSC showcases, and ensembles in Hip Hop, Contemporary, Jazz, Strings, and Band, alongside Art and Tech Clubs and Moocooboola Reimagined.
- Physical confidence and teamwork are built through GALA Days, knockout competitions, gym programs, and Duke of Edinburgh. Wellbeing and leadership are fostered through Peer Support, SRC, RAISE, Rock & Water, Creating Chances, and Rainbow Group.
- Strong reflective practice and social-emotional intelligence is developed in Sailing to Excellence. An exclusive program built on our strong partnership with Hunters Hill Yacht Club.
Through these opportunities, Hunters Hill High School ensures every student is challenged, supported, and inspired to achieve their personal best.
Across NSW
Hunters Hill High School provides students with rich opportunities to extend and enrich their potential through participation in a range of state-wide programs.
- Our students engage in the Premier’s Debating Challenge, developing critical thinking, logical reasoning, and confidence in public speaking. The Premier’s Spelling Bee builds vocabulary, precision, and a love of language, while involvement in the Australian Space Design Competition and STEM Enrichment Partnerships with industry and universities fosters innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving.
- Creative expression is celebrated through participation in the Schools Spectacular, state and regional music ensembles, and dance and drama ensembles, where students refine their performance skills and explore new forms of artistic storytelling.
- The Premier’s Sporting Challenge and Representative School Sport Pathway promote whole-school participation in physical activity and enable students to compete at regional and state levels, building teamwork, discipline, and resilience.
- Mentoring programs further strengthen student wellbeing, connecting learners with trusted adults and alumni who support confidence, motivation, and personal growth.
