HHHS students announced as Young Citizen and Sportsperson of the Year

Jane Andrews, a Year 12 student at Hunters Hill High School, and Ethan Stathakis, a Year 11 student at Hunters Hill High School, were honored with the prestigious Young Citizen of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year at the annual Australia Day Celebrations coordinated by the Hunters Hill Council and held at The Deckhouse Function Centre in Woolwich.

Amongst many nominees, Jane and Ethan made their families, school and themselves extremely proud having gained such prestigious acknowledgement of their community efforts by winning two of the four Hunters Hill Citizens of the Year Awards (the other two were Community Event of the Year and Citizen of the Year).

Jane Andrews, the 2014 Female School Captain, has embedded values and connections with the Hunters Hill community having been born and raised in Hunters Hill and whose brother, both parents, aunties, uncles and cousins have attended Hunters Hill High School. Jane's responsible, reliable and personable nature is valued by her school community and beyond. These excellent attributes are extended to her peers through her role as mentor to younger students, as well as to primary school students during the many transitional and partnership programs the school offers, including the annual Top of the Hill, Hands on Science, Band Workshop and others. Jane has coordinated and hosted many of these programs and has worked alongside teachers and Principals displaying her strong leadership skills and invaluable dedication to public education.

Ethan Stathakis, a humble and popular member of the Hunters Hill High School community has continued his achievements in his chosen field of sport - Gymnastics. Having participated at State-level since his primary school years, Ethan has never demanded any formal recognition of his achievements, instead, has respectfully continued to train hard to achieve his goals and sense of self-satisfaction. His attitude towards achievement is something that should be admired and commended and sets a positive tone with the people whom have had an associations with him. Ethan is much deserving of such an accolade and his dedication to his sport is to be commended. His persistence and continued level of exemplary achievement is to be admired.

Hunters Hill High School and its community wish to congratulate these two outstanding students and young leaders. We are extremely proud of their continuous efforts and dedication to their leadership and talents. An extended gratitude to Jane's and Ethan's families for their support and love.
