Duke of Edinburgh Success!

Over the past weekend, 22 students completed their practice Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Participants were able to experience the Berowra Valley through two different modes of transport: canoeing and hiking. Hikers began at Galston Gorge Track head and canoeists began at Berowra waters Marina. A swap in transport modes on the second day, after camping the first night at Crosslands Reserve, ensured that all participants refined their canoeing skills under the expert tuition of the Lithgow TAFE instructors and used their navigation skills to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey. The Monday saw the Silver participants completing their journey with a total of 20kms and two nights under their belts. Much of the second and third days' hiking was up challengingly steep rocky inclines as participants made their way to their final destination at Cowan. Congratulations to all participants involved for your fortitude, problem solving and high spirits in making the trip so successful. Thank you to Mr Murphy and Mr Oh for giving up their weekend to provide this wonderful opportunity for our students.
